Seasonal Course Harvest 2015
Thanks to a winter full of rain (sometimes snowfalls) the vines wake up into a mild spring with a good supply of water available.
Budding was anticipated since last year, as well as the flowering began after the middle of May, which was followed by an excellent ripening of the grapes.
The climatic elements that made this year an excellent vintage were: the heat, especially in summer, with temperatures above average, and the low rainfall for quite some time.
The atmospheric conditions have avoided the diseases on the vineyard, mainly “peronospera” and “oidio”, therefore almost all Italian vineyards have enjoyed an unusual health, with clusters that the harvest occurred very healthy, carrying out a limited number of special treatments.
After mid-August the situation is a bit changed with providential rainfall that have lowered the temperature and established the ideal conditions for ripening (hot during the day and cold at night).
Therefore, the vintage 2015 has allowed us to collect healthy and ripe grapes with higher sugar content, compared with the past years. The wines produced, taking into account the circumstances, show just already the excellent quality levels reached.
White wines have clean and varietal aromas, who trained with well-conducted fermentation at controlled temperature. The extracts are higher than last year and the acidity is contained.
Red wines, especially, are the ones who have enjoyed more the positive course of this favorable season and are colorful, filled mostly with mature tannins and consequently softer.
The grapes that are drying for the production of Amarone and Recioto have also reached strength and thick skin this year. In the “Fruttaio” (drying room) it is being rarely used the special dehumidification systems because the low external humidity has allowed a natural, slow and regular drying process so far.
